Question 01.

Should I file a national, European or international application?

When seeking patent protection in EPO member states, you can either file a national application in each state or choose the European route, which covers all contracting states with a single procedure.

For protection in a single country, filing directly at that country’s national patent office is recommended.

For a European patent, there are two options: the direct European route, governed solely by the EPC, or the Euro-PCT route, where the initial phase follows the PCT and the regional phase is governed by the EPC.
